Another lost chance...
The first fifteen minutes you get to listen to the Lost Acapulco music and the introduction of the characters in a "Snatch" and a Tarantinesque way (excuse the references) and you get the hope that this flick would have something to deliver... Well, it doesn't.
This one falls flat that you're just waiting the ending. Luis Felipe Tovar does a playback of his own character in Don de Dios (the same crap)and Ver,Oír y Callar but he is trapped in his same character again, and again, and again. Films (and acting) like El Callejón de los Milagros are too far in time from him to reach. De la Rosa Bros. are more promising but they are never developed. Angel is from another story, just glued to this script (and just an excuse to see a naked girl). Chango and Daga are just stupid excuses for the holes in the story. And you'll get tired of the "off" narration. Well, Sin Ton ni Sonia seems like a masterpiece compared to this one.
In the beginning there is a tone of auto parody, dark humor, but then it runs too serious. They buy what they are selling, not the audience. They DO think this would be a great film. And as always in the modern history of Mexican cinema, the audience is waiting, and waiting for something that never happens.
But the main issue about this is that the story is never believable. This "mafia stories" are too over exploited, and therefore useless. Can anyone believe that all this violence, torture, killing is because a "fayuca" matter? "Fayuca" is just an illegal way to trade toys, clothes, electronic stuff; nothing more, no drugs or guns or sex. It's not a big cake as the narcotraffic. A commentary on piracy could be made but is not even mentioned. I just don't get it. Then I wondered if this was a heir or a homage to Orol's films. They all use the same pair of guns in the whole movie. You can identify something like a toy of a German World War II Luger. But then I realized that it was just because this is a low rate film made in video, lack of money, nothing more. I like Mexican movies, and would like to support a talented youth. But not this one. Please, get out of this genre, watch more movies, read more books, make better films. The audience deserves it.
